The first banknotes were issued in 1964. It was created on June 12, 1973 and took over from the Institut d&#8217;\u00c9mission Malgache. In 2005, it will officially rename the national currency Ariary instead of the Malagasy Franc. This ensures the internal and external economic stability of its currency. Madagascar performs the following functions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>it exercises the privilege of issuing banknotes and coins that are legal tender on the territory of Madagascar;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>it is the bank of banks;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>it is the state bank;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>it manages the national foreign exchange reserve;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>it guarantees the proper functioning of the banking and financial system;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>it ensures the proper functioning of the payment system;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>it ensures the General Secretariat of the Banking and Financial Supervision
